Interior Décor Associate
Interior decorators enhance the inside of buildings or specific rooms in a building to meet the needs of the inhabitants. The interior decorator's primary duty is selecting, creating, pricing and placing a variety of decorative elements for a client's project. Working within the client's budget, the interior decorator will furnish interior spaces with furniture pieces, and textiles such as rugs and upholstery, art and decorative lighting creating a unique aesthetic environment based on the client’s scope. They will work closely with the Sr. and Lead Interior Designers of a project to select and manage complete furniture and styling packages for multiple projects at a time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Select all furniture and decorative elements of spaces for multiple projects at once
Outline client design objectives and aesthetic
Develop furniture plans as per industry standards and ergonomic considerations
Determine cost of completion and project requirements in the budgeting phase
Set a timeline for the completion of an interior design project and insure all items will arrive on time and on budget
Source materials and products included in plans
Create presentation to TLS standards and collect material samples to review with your project design team
Insert selections into interior floor plans + elevations using Revit software
Work with TLS vendors closely to design custom furniture pieces
Inspect design after completion to determine whether client goals have been met
Use project management software to organize project notes, status, deliverables and more
Stay current with product + material knowledge
Stay current with TLS vendor product launches
Stay current with trends
Manage budgets and schedules
Manage install day
Meet with clients at various showrooms when required
Site measure when plans can not be provided
Keep material library up to date and tidy
Skills and Qualifications
Strong communication skills, both written (email) and verbal (client and vendor interactions) in English
Working knowledge of trades and vendors
Proficient at navigating design centers and showrooms (online and in-person)
Experience sourcing a variety of furniture and fixtures including lighting, hardware, window coverings, finishes and decor items
Ability to work on multiple projects, meet deadlines, and detail oriented
Must be proactive and productive
Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance with a reliable vehicle for travel
Design skills – interior decorators are well-versed in the principles and practices of design, and know how to balance color, flow, and unity to ensure that all decorative elements work cohesively. Human ergonomics and furniture placement knowledge is required.
This role requires a high level of creativity, as interior decorators need to come up with creative ways to reinvent spaces, which can include selecting new furniture or updating finishes. Excellent and professional client service skills and the ability to make changes to ideas and rooms to accommodate the client’s wishes throughout the decoration process
Keep their projects within the client’s budget while also maintaining profitability for the business
Effective and professional communication is key in this role, as interior decorators work with clients and the TLS interior design team and direct the activities of contractors and vendors
Experience and Education
A certification in this field is an asset.
1-2 years experience in the field is an asset.
Materiality knowledge or fabrics, woods, ect. is an asset along with knowledge in custom furniture design and specification requirements.
Base knowledge of Google Business Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slide ect.) is required. Revit and Adobe Suite is an asset.
